Angela’s family is originally from Mexico, but now they live in Texas. Angela’s father wanted to move to Texas so that they could have more and better opportunities. I think that Angela’s father already thinks that moving to the USA was worth it because Angela is getting better opportunities. In my opinion Angela wants to win to make her father proud. I think she just wants to show him how good moving to USA was for her and that all his work was worth it. She just wants to make him proud.

To Wear or Not to Wear

You, Me and an Application

While reading the article Why Race Matters in School Admissions I found out that race was an aspect that some colleges look at when considering your application. The article is about two deans, Martha L. Minow and Robert Post from two very important law universities of the United States, Harvard and Yale.  I thought it was very interesting how to deans of opponents law schools joined together to write this article. They are responding to the demand of the supreme court of ignoring race when considering applications.

 

After reading the article I agree with them. “The character of our students is relevant to the quality of our leaders.” I totally agree with this statement, I think that character really shows what you’re capable of and what you can achieve over time. I also think it’s true that character is revealed on life circumstances and it’s very important to see what kind of life applicants have and how they respond to it.

 

It is true that race is different in each person and in some people it might be excruciating to look at.  I think it was good when colleges looked at the character and the story of life of each applicant. “While we agree that it is inconsistent with the dignity of persons to consider only race, we firmly believe that it is equally inconsistent with their dignity to refuse to hear what applicants have to tell us about the role that race has played in their lives.” In this statement we can see that they are not only looking for race but, race is one of the factors.

 

 “We need to select a class in which students have different perspectives, diverse aspirations and complementary strengths. Law students learn not only from faculty and books but also from each other.” As this statement says in laws schools it is very important to have students with different perspective, point of view, and ideas. I agree with this because law is a career in which you learn a lot from classmates.

The Journey Begun

After reading the book I saw it was totally different to what I thought it would be. A conclusion I got form the book was that it was the journey of  life of a king.

Throughout the book the king changes.  I think he changes because his perspective of life changes and he starts thinking deeper into things. I also think he changes because of his companion Enkindu. I can relate that to a lot of people because sometimes people change because of new friends or new people with whom they hang out with. When reading this I also remembered about the movie Journey 2 because in that movie the kid goes through allot of adventures and through a journey like the tittle says to find his grandfather  and answers about the island no one new about I can related this to  Gilgamesh because he  goes through a journey to find answers about death or about what happens after life.

 Through  tablet 8 and 10 Gilgamesh does allot of things related to his companions  (Enkindus) death. He goes through a lot of paths and adventures to find Utnapishtim to ask him about life and death. I think he wants to know all this because he is afraid of what comes after life. Throughout the book he has always shown power by frighting everybody with his strength now he has understood more about life and is afraid of what will come next in his life and if he would still want to have power over people by frightening them. Throughout all of this, Gilgamesh is always asking "must I die to? Must Gilgamesh be like that?" (pg 56) I think this is interesting  because it shows how his afraid and  uncertain
 about the path of his life. 

 One question I have about the book is:  is Gilgamesh so afraid of death? Why does he go through all the trouble to find the answer to escape death?  Is it because he doesn't know what comes next? Why?

OHH The Dreams I Had

I actually thought Gilgamesh was going to be a difficult book to read, understand, and that it was going to be a little boring or at least that it wasn’t going to be the kind of book I like. But after reading some of it I found out that it was nothing like I thought, it could be a little confusing sometimes,  but it’s still fun to read.

Throughout tablets IV and V Gilgamesh has some dreams at night and  wakes up wanting to know what they mean, Enkidu always listens to these dreams and  tells him their fortunate. I could relate this to my own life because often times I wake up because of a dream, but when I wake up sometimes I don’t want to know what it means I just want to put it aside and see how life goes. Some other times I really want to know what it means and maybe even why a dreamed that and not any other thing. A question that I  would like the book  to answer  would  be knowing  what the meaning of the dreams are  and if they’re really fortunate like Enkindu says.
